Andrew Wainstein

Job Title:
Managing Director and Founder
Company:
Fantasy League

Andrew graduated in 1986 with a degree in Computing from LSE and went to work at (what was) Andersen Consulting, now Accenture. He stayed there until 1989 when moved to UBS working on back-office systems for a year.

Then after a six-month break travelling the US set up Fantasy League in 1991 and pioneered the US fantasy sports concept in the UK. The first games were post and paper-based, with the game bursting onto a larger stage with a BBC radio show in 1992, the Daily Telegraph Fantasy League in 1993 and the Baddiel & Skinner TV show in 1994.

Following TV and newspaper exposure in the early nineties the game moved online with Euro 96 and the internet has proved a vital catalyst in transforming the business, which combines its own B2C products with a range of white-label games provided for partners such as The Sun, Sky Sports, Barclays, JP Morgan Orange and Liverpool FC.

The company currently runs over 150 online games across a range of sports and territories, with specialized products for financial institutions and schools. Based in London with 30 staff, Fantasy League’s games are now played by close to 2m people worldwide.
