Martin Murphy was appointed as Stadium Director of Aviva Stadium in 2007 with overall responsibility for the operation of the stadium. This is a new, €410m, 51,000 capacity venue for rugby and soccer which opened in Dublin in May 2010. The facility offers conferencing and events facilities.

He has been involved with the stadium from the outset having previously worked as Director of Operations and Corporate Affairs with the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) from 1995. This period covered a time when rugby became a professional sport and he was closely involved with the great transition from an amateur sport to the vibrant professional game which rugby is today.

He has considerable experience in sports administration at club and international level. He was responsible for all events at Lansdowne Road stadium from 1995 to 2007 and for the initial rugby matches played at Croke Park. Martin was also involved in the development of Thomond Park stadium and is a member of the board of Thomond Park Ltd.

Martin was educated at University College Galway (Bachelor of Arts) and University of Ulster (Advanced Diploma in Management Practice).
