ArkSports Databox: What impact will new media delivery have on the sports business over the next 15 years? - June 2004

Between 14 January and 13 February 2004, Sport and Technology carried out a survey of key executives within the business of sport on the subject of monetising digital sports content.
Exactly 70% of respondents believed that new media delivery will have a substantial impact (scale of 5 and 4 combined) on the building of communities between sports properties and their fans. The same number believed that new media delivery will strengthen the position of dominant sports, clubs and broadcasters (70% for scales 5 and 4 combined). Nearly 60% of respondents believed that new media delivery will encourage major clubs/federations to retain rights control. Respondents felt that new media delivery is least likely to enable new entrants (such as IT companies) to gain control of distribution of sport (37% for scales 1 and 2 combined).
