> The A1 Grand Prix racing circuit was founded by Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum.
> The circuit began on Sunday, 25 September with 25 countries taking part at Brands Hatch in the UK.
> Brazil’s driver Nelson Piquet Jr won both events - the Sprint Race and the Feature Race.
> The driver for the Netherlands, Jos Verstappen, used to compete in Formula One.
> There will be 12 events in total with the final one taking place in Shanghai, China in April 2006.

Euroleague Basketball
> The Euroleague is one of Europe’s premier club competitions, with 24 teams from 13 countries in 2005-06.
> Spain and Italy have most representatives in the 2005-06 edition. Each nation sends four teams.
> The reigning Euroleague champions are Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel which beat Tau Ceramica of Spain in this year’s final.
> Maccabi became the first team to win successive titles since Jugoplastika Split reigned supreme from 1989 to 1991.
> Real Madrid of Spain won a record eight Euroleague titles from 1964 to 1995.

> On Wednesday, 5 October 2005, NHL Ice Hockey will resume after a whole season was lost due to a strike.
> The league consists of 30 teams of which 24 are based in the US and six hail from Canada.
> In 2004, the Tampa Bay Lightning became the first NHL champions from the ‘Sunshine State’, Florida.
> The last Canadian winners of the coveted Stanley Cup were the 1993 Montreal Canadiens.
> The Canadians are one of two ever present teams and have won an NHL record 23 championship titles.
