> The 2006 World Cup was the first without a hat-trick.
> Sweden’s Marcus Allbäck’s goal against England was the 2,000th in World Cup history.

Rugby League

> Rugby League in the UK began in 1895 when Northern clubs formed the NRFU.
> Rule changes in the original game meant that the game of Rugby League developed over the following 12 years.
> In the UK, the game is administered by the Rugby Football League (RFL).
> There are two main club competitions, the Super League (Europe) and the Challenge Cup.
> The current Super League has 10 clubs from Northern England, one from London and one from France.

Wimbledon 2006

> The Men’s Singles title in 2006 was won by Roger Federer for the fourth time in a row.
> Federer lost only one set in his seven matches. Björn Borg (1976) is the only Wimbledon champion to lose no sets.
> Amélie Mauresmo won the Ladies’ Singles title, her second Grand Slam title.
> Her opponent Justine Henin-Hardenne still needs to win Wimbledon to complete a career Grand Slam.
> The Bryan twins won the Men’s doubles and have now won each of the four Grand Slams.
